Possible attempted fraud (On going investigation)
On March 26th, a Kitimat resident attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment to report a possible fraudulent loan from a financial company. The resident had received an unsolicited phone call from an individual claiming to be from a financial institution claiming a loan had been approved but they needed a driver's license and further personal information. Upon review of the loan documents, it appeared to be designed poorly with multiple obvious concerns such as having unreadable text which, in a legal document, would be highly unlikely. It also had obvious statements that were not professionally edited. A call was made to the financial company who indicated that no one by the name of the person who made the original call worked there nor did the victim have a loan with them; which lead to them indicating that it was a scam. If you’ve received a call similar to this, please contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. (2025-1022)
