The start of the month of March brought a special milestone for the small but vibrant community of Kitimat, British Columbia, as the local McDonald’s restaurant celebrates its one-year anniversary. Since opening its doors on March 8th, 2024, the fast-food giant has quickly become a staple in the town, bringing familiar flavors and a new gathering spot to residents nestled in the heart of the northwest’s lush wilderness.

Located at Highway 37, 2109 Forest Avenue, the Kitimat McDonald’s was part of a larger commercial development that also includes a gas bar, convenience store, and additional commercial units. The restaurant’s arrival was met with enthusiasm from locals eager for more dining options in the community.Over the past year, it has served as more than just a place to grab a quick bite—it’s become a hub for community connection.

in acknowledgment of the one year anniversary, the local McDonald's franchise has been offering 4 menu items at special deals pricing from March 10th till March 23rd.

Any Mcmuffin. 3 dollars

McChicken sandwich. 4 dollars

Quarter pounder with cheese. 4 dollars

McChicken nuggets. 20-piece nuggets for 10 dollars.

General Manager Jeffrey Lunday stated that business for the franchise has been steady and that he's been proud to serve the community. Many customers stated to me that Jeffrey brings a very energetic and positive attitude to his work and that they always look forward to seeing him and chatting with him.

For a fun challenge, I attempted to contend for a world record. Eating 20 McDonald's chicken nuggets in one minute. How did I do? Not well. I was a bit too eager to get started and began eating before waiting for my food to cool. I still managed to eat all 20 nuggets in just over 3 minutes. I look forward to making another attempt at the record in the near future.

For Kitimat, a town of roughly 8,000 residents situated at the head of the Douglas Channel, the arrival of McDonald’s last year signaled a step forward in its ongoing evolution. Known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, the community has seen increased interest in recent years due to industrial projects and tourism. The McDonald’s, complete with its signature drive-thru and modern design, has added a touch of convenience to the area’s rugged charm.

The restaurant has also contributed to the local economy, employing people from the area, many of whom are young workers gaining their first job experience.

As the sun sets over the Coast Mountains tonight, the golden arches will glow a little brighter in Kitimat, a symbol of a year well-spent and a promise of more to come. For now, residents can enjoy their Big Macs and fries with a side of pride, knowing their town has carved out its own small piece of McDonald’s history in Canada.
